Introduction Notices to Mariners are periodical publications, edited as booklet, for the main purpose toadvise mariners of important matters affecting navigational safety, including new hydrographic information, changes in channels and aids to navigation, and other important data.   19. Notices are issued daily and published in Weekly Editions. Daily notices are numbered consecutively starting at the beginning of each year with Admiralty, Australian and New Zealand Notices in separate service. Mariners are requested to cooperate in the correction of charts and publications by reporting all discrepancies between published information and conditions actually observed and by recommending appropriate improvements. A convenient reporting form is provided in the back of each Notice to Mariners.

In addition to Admiralty Notices to Mariners (ANM) which are published by the UK Hydrographic Office and include all Australian and New Zealand chart correcting Notices, there is American Notice to Mariners (NM), which is published weekly by the Defense Mapping Agency Hydrographic/Topographic Center (DMAHTC), prepared jointly with the National Ocean Service (NOS) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).

Annual Summary of Notices to Mariners is an important complement to Weekly NMs. This publication containsthe Annual Statutory Notices to Mariners Numbers 1-25, a summary of Temporary and Preliminary Notices to Mariners still in force at the start of the year, and a Cumulative Summary of Amendments to Admiralty Sailing Directions.
