  3. Divorce Depending on the person splitting the marriage, different feeling may happen. If one wants to end the marriage, felling of abandonment / humiliation in the one being dumped, and feelings of guilt at ending the relationship in the other. • - If it was a mutual split, feeling of love or hate can linger. coping techniques like projection and denial are often used here in order to cushion impact of stress.

  4. Bereavement • -Occurs after death of a loved one • stages: • 1. Begins with numbness • 2. Anger • 3. despair • 4. intense grief • 5. depression • 6. Acceptance • 7. defense stage where the survivor gathers strength for • more direct coping like moving belongings out of the house.

  5. Catastrophes -Stages: • 1. Shock stage • 2. Suggestible stage • 3. Recovery Stage • 4. Irrational guilt stage (sometimes occurs in later life)
