  1. A Brief Guide to Survival and Possibly Progress

  2. Software for producing, processing, and publishing high quality image datasets for the earth sciences. A marriage between GIS and PhotoShop, Illustrator, etc. image editing programs. A flashy, real-time-processing, zero intermediate file, algorithm based image generator for GIS. A user-friendly but robust tool for adding geospatial, geological, and geophysical data to image datasets. A page editor: preparing all of the above for professional and online publication/presentation. What is ERMapper?

  3. Application Examples • Geocoding and mosaicing aerial photographs for incorporation in GIS. • Processing LandsatTMs in bands. • Manipulating Digital Elevation Models (DEM, aka DTM). • Incorporating geophysical, hydrological, mineral exploration, etc. datasets with any or all of the above. • Compression of very large datasets to different formats (i.e. DEM raster to JPEG, ECW).

  4. Where is ERMapper? • 6.2 is loaded and licensed on all computers in the Snee NT Lab. • START/Programs/RemoteSensing/ERMapper6.2 • Steve Gallow can help, but beware. • Individual workgroups may have licenses. • EAS 315: Geomorphology uses ERMapper exclusively for labs. Dr. Isacks is a resident guru. • ERViewer available free at www.ermapper.com.

  5. Preliminary Warning • ERMapper does NOT play well with others • Process separate data routines before opening Mapper, or at least save work in Mapper before attempting to launch any other large program.

  6. Wizards • ERMapper has created Wizard tools for many of its most popular routines. • Unlike relatives in MSOffice, these can be very helpful and intuitive. • A short demonstration and a few examples…

  7. ? Any Questions ? • Application to COCORP Digital Library initiative • Further annotation editing – regions, statistics, etc… classification. • Why ERMapper? • Where is there data? • NY statewide orthoimagery: • http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us/gateway/mg/cir.htm • DEMs: talk to Dr. Isacks and/or Aaron
