  4. Additional Higher Level Topics • Nucleic acids and proteins • Cell respiration and photosynthesis • Genetics • Human Reproduction • Defence against infectious disease • Nerves, muscles and movement • Excretion • Plant Science

  5. Option Topics for Standard and Higher Level • Evolution • Neurobiology and Behaviour • Applied Plant and Animal Science • Ecology and Conservation

  6. Examinations • 76% is assessed by External Examination in the May of the Second Year of study. • 24% is assessed through Practical skills carried out during the course.

  7. External Examinations • Paper 1 • Multiple-choice questions on the Core Topics • Paper 2 • Section A – Data based and short answer questions on the Core Topic. • Section B – One (standard) or Two (higher) Essay questions with some choice of question. • Paper 3 • Short answer Questions related to the options studied

  8. Internal Teacher Assessment • Assessment of the Practical work done over the two years
