Why we exist • Our Mission • To provide access to evidence-based early intervention, supervision, treatment & secure care for youth and families, so that community safety is enhanced and Youth learn accountability and responsibility. • Our Vision • Maricopa County Juvenile Probation Department is a place where justice means promoting public safety while improving & enriching the lives of youth, victims, families and the community.

  9. Why are juveniles detained? • By judicial order only • Delinquency issues (with rare exception) • Must have justifiable reasons: • Threat to self or others • Flight risk • May be charged as an adult • Hold for another jurisdiction

  10. What detention is A holding facility for juveniles charged with and/or found guilty of a delinquent offense

  11. What detention is not A prison; a consequence A group home or treatment center A break for parents A place to “teach a kid a lesson” A daycare facility Detention is a holding facilityfor delinquent juvenilesand must be justified by the judicial officer in the official court order.
