  2. Migration • travel with 100 or more • might travel up to 2,000 miles

  3. Traveling South • travel to find better resources and weather • travel when food supply gets to low

  4. Insects and Animals it Eats • eat spiders, beetles, crickets, and grasshoppers • favorite food is the mealworm • might eat lizards, tree frogs, and snakes

  5. Berries and Plants it Eats • eats almost all small berries • likes mistletoe

  6. Homes • tree cavities and abandoned woodpecker holes • favorite is homemade bluebird boxes

  7. Eggs • ½ in. long • 4-5 eggs at a time • incubate for 12-14 days

  8. Babies • start to look like parents at 1½ weeks old • learn how to fly when 4-5 weeks old

  9. Babies • parents feed for 3-4 weeks • when one year old can mate, nest, and lay eggs

  10. Extinct • almost became extinct in 1700s • numbers increased in the 1800s • it then fell again in the 1900s • in last 40 years they are seen everywhere

  11. Size, Weight, and Age • 6.5 - 8.5 in. tall • O.84 oz. – 1.09oz. • live for 6-10 years
