  9. Glacier Wind Glacier Wind Project (GWA) • Located in Cut Bank, Montana • 106.5 MW Capacity (71 turbines) • GWA began operating as BA on Oct 15, 2008. • First wind-only Balancing Authority.

  10. Operational Requirements • AGC Contracts from 3rd party sources • Operating Agreements with Adjacent BA describing normal and emergency operations • Contingency Reserve Requirements in place

  11. AGC & Reserve Requirements • BA Responsibility to maintain AGC capacity for: • Frequency Bias response, CPS, 5% Operating Reserve margin • Additional AGC to balance wind variability • Wind profile case study • Deviation from forecast used to define additional AGC requirement

Tools & Techniques • Executed Regulating Reserve Services Agreement w/ third party. • AGC and Dynamic Schedule • Provides significant ability to balance energy at any time • GWA will participate in ACE Diversity Interchange (ADI) to share ACE signals with BA’s and balance with each other. • Allows for adjustment through ACE sharing with other participants • Wind forecasting tools • Worked closely with adjacent BA Northwestern Energy • NWPP reserve pool membership for contingency reserves
