  3. VARIABLES What do the symbols look like? The symbols are letters of the alphabet. (Like x, y, z, a, b, c, n, u, and v.)

  4. VARIABLES A number sentence with variable might look like this: b + 4 = 10 OR w – 6 = 1 OR a ÷ 2 = 5 REMEMBER: A variable stands for a number. Sometimes it’s easy to tell what it stands for.
