About Us Ms. Gowin Ms. Day Certified Special Education and Regular Education K-5 Have taught Pre K, 5th, 8thand special education Have 3 children (2yr. old, 4yr. old and a 1st grader) and a supportive husband. Love the Braves, watching my kids play sports, and eating out! I believe that the most important job of a teacher is meeting the kids needs! • Certified Special Education and Regular Education K-5 • Have taught Pre K, 1st, 3rd , 4th, 5th, 6-8th, special education, TAG cluster, and general education • Have 3 children (1st, 3rd, and 5th grade) and a wonderful husband. • Love the beach, reading, and traveling • I believe that ALL kids can and want to learn!

Students will write their homework in their agenda daily as this helps them to realize the importance of their agenda and their responsibility in the learning process. • Signing the agenda and checking that they have completed all of their assignments is one of the best ways to help your child this year. Agendas Read, discuss, and initial your child’s agenda each day. Agendas are a major form of communication, so feel free to write any notes inside.

  6. Homework Homework will be given every night except weekends and holidays. Your child will have approximately sixty minutes of homework each night. All homework should be turned in on the due date. Students with missing assignments will be expected to complete them. Academic detention will be given to students who have 3 missing assignments.

  7. Word Study contracts are due on Fridays. Students will have the opportunity to complete some of that work at school. However, what they do not finish in class will become homework.   8. Sun. Mon. Tue. wed. Thur. Fri. Sat. Signed Papers and Grades Students will bring home all graded assignments in their take home folders. The items that are in the “sign and return” side need to be reviewed and returned to the teachers. Grades are based on homework (10% ), classwork (20% ), Quizzes (30% ), and tests/quizzes (40% ). Home Access Center is a place where you can see your child’s grades.

  12. Conferences We will begin conferences the week of September 9th. We would love to have a face-to-face conference with each of you by the end of September. Because we will be discussing your child’s progress and goals for the year, we welcome student attendance at these conferences.

  13. Snacks We feel that students cannot learn if they are hungry. Your child is welcome to have a healthy snack anytime during our guided reading hour. If they are hungry at other times, they may have a snack as long as it does not impede with learning in the classroom.

  14. Absences and Transportation Changes If your child is absent, a written note is required to explain your child’s absence from school. Excused absences are limited to illness, death in family, or religious holidays. Students who have missed 10 days of school or more may be required to provide additional verification including doctor’s statements. Ifthe student is going home a different way other than his/her usual carpool or bus, we must have a note from home that morning. Without a note, the student will not be allowed to alter the dismissal routine.

  15. Birthday Celebrations You are welcome to send in a healthy snack in honor of your child’s birthday. We do have students with food allergies, so please take this into consideration when sending in any snacks. We will celebrate at lunch time.
