  3. Why Should I Have a Resume? • It is an important document used to apply for a job. • It gives your employer the opportunity to learn about you. • It can also be used for internships and summer jobs.

  4. Types of Resumes • Chronological • Lists your jobs beginning with the most recent one • Functional • Focuses on your skills and experience • Combination • Lists your skills and experience followed by your job history • Video

  5. Parts of a Resume • Identifying information • Objective • Education • Experience • Honors, activities, professional affiliation • Skills • Others • References

  6. Identifying Information • Full name • Address • Home/cell phone number • E-mail address • Web site (if appropriate)

  7. Objective • Indicates the type of work you are seeking • If you do not know the exact position you are seeking, you may omit the objective

  8. Education • Name and locations of schools and programs • Graduation dates • Degrees or certificates

  9. Experience • Include full time and part time jobs, volunteer work, internship, self-employment, and activities if they are related to this position. • Job title • Employer name • City/state of the employer • Employer dates • Responsibilities

  10. Honors, Activities, and Professional Affiliations • Activities or leadership positions related to the job • Honors or awards

  11. Skills • Computer skills • Languages (if appropriate)

  12. Others • Interests or volunteer work related to the position you are seeking

  13. References • Choose references • Ask references • Gather contact information • Prepare references • Keep references informed • Thanks references
