  3. Facts • Juniper berries help childbirth • Feverfew eases pain • Cobwebs or yarrow stop bleeding • Amputation was used to cure infections in the past

  4. Midwives, Shamans, or Curandera • Midwives and curanderas help give childbirth. • They used to believe in superstition but they also used good medicine. • Shamans heal people with empathy. The function of a Shaman is to restore belief. • Curanderas are Mexican. • Shamans are Native Americans.

Superstition • Midwives believed that if you hang garlic over a baby’s crib the fairies won’t steal them. • Take roosters and fishing nets out of the house or else the baby’s birth won’t be lucky. • Take the broth of cow fat and honey for sufficient strength. • Rub the head of an eel on a baby’s birthmark for three mornings.
