Documenting Faculty Credentials for the Faculty Roster 2002 SACS reaffirmation – UK cited for non-compliance related to faculty competence Comprehensive Standard 3.7.1: The institution employs competent faculty members qualified to accomplish the mission and goals of the institution When determining acceptable qualifications of its faculty, the institution: - Gives primary consideration to the highest earned degree in the discipline, and also - Considers other experience, competence, effectiveness and capacity In response to SACS, UK implemented new faculty credentialing procedures Faculty Database: supports new procedures and data collection for Faculty Roster

Documenting Faculty Credentials for the Faculty Roster Procedures at the time of hire - Program Level Departments enter credential data in the Faculty Database Document faculty degrees, year awarded, institution, and disciplines Disciplines coded with the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) taxonomy Indicate planned faculty teaching areas coded by discipline (CIP) Document other qualifications in lieu of degree in the teaching discipline Generate the Teaching Credentials Certification and Justification forms Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs approves the faculty credentials via the Teaching Credentials and Justification Forms 4

Documenting Faculty Credentials for the Faculty Roster Procedures each semester – Course Level: Faculty Roster Courses, sections and instructor assignment data imported into Faculty Database from SAP - Student Life Cycle Management(SLCM) Departments document credentials required to teach each course Courses are assigned CIP codes based on content, effectively identifying the degree(s) required to teach course Departments prompted to enter other qualifications when instructor degree disciplines do not match course disciplines Goal is to reflect decisions of chair in making teaching assignments Departments resolve instructor assignment issues in SAP Identify missing instructors, erroneously assigned instructors
