What you need to know… • Context clues: Read the sentence with the unfamiliar word and look for clues to its meaning. “When I got home after a long day, I was so famished I ate an entire frozen pizza.” What does famished mean? • Fact vs. opinion: Facts can be verified and opinions cannot. Cats sleep 15-20 hours a day. Tabby cats are the cutest. Which is a fact? • Characterization: authors reveal character through dialogue, direct descriptions, and character reactions.
