  2. Session Objectives • Describe the concepts of blended learning • Identify how blended learning can standardize education • Identify critical components needed to achieve the goals of incorporating blended learning to improve efficiencies

  3. Not all blended learning opportunities are equal or equally valuable

  4. Blended Learning Overview • Mixing teaching/facilitation methods, learning styles, resource formats, technology, and a range of expertise into a learning stream • Involves an intentional shift in learning format • Allows for instructional strategies that combine different methods to achieve the goals of the curriculum

  6. Blended Learning Concepts SITUATE knowledge in multiple contexts and multiple representations of content to prepare for appropriate transfer of concepts

  7. Blended Learning Concepts CREATE cognitive flexibility by ensuring that information is seen from multiple perspectives

  8. Blended Learning Concepts SET THE STAGE but have the students collaborate and generate knowledge for themselves

  9. BLENDED LEARNING: STEP 1 • NEEDS ASSESSMENT!!!! • Who are the learners? • What are the goals? • What is the optimal training and design? • Analyze the training and course objectives • Determine the method(s) to achieve the goal • Aggregate the instruction into a blended learning approach

  10. WHAT IS THE RIGHT MIX? • Individual Performance • Online Learning • Self-Study – Cost effective, self-pace • Task Mastery • Simulation • Virtual Reality • Team Training • Simulation • Face to Face interaction

  11. CASE SCENARIO #1 • EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TRAINING • Objectives of Training • Evaluation of time-line • Identification of Learners • Identification of methods • Barriers • Development of course delivery • Evaluation of effectiveness

  12. CASE SCENARIO #2 • Enterprise-Wide ACLS/PALS • Objectives of Training • Identification of Learners • Identification of methods • Barriers • Development of course delivery • Evaluation of effectiveness

  13. CASE SCENARIO #3 • Outreach training program • Objectives of Training • Identification of Learners • Identification of methods • Barriers • Development of course delivery • Evaluation of effectiveness
