  6. Do you have Standards? Honesty Perseverance Loyalty True love Health Integrity Patience Kindness Friendship first Deal with anger, hurt and fears head on Sexual abstinence…? Standards help you to protect your character and your goals!!

  7. Peer Pressure…. • Who sets your standards? • Who tells you your self worth? • Who is protecting your goals? • Who is going to be there when you face the consequences of your choices?

  8. Question:Why do people have sex before marriage? Bottom line:They are looking for love and acceptance

  9. Why Abstinence? Because there is no such thing as safe sex! Abstinence is the only 100% effective protection from the possible physical, emotional, mental and social consequences of sex before marriage. Abstinence is the safest and healthiest lifestyle!

  10. To abstain means to voluntarily choose not to do something you have the opportunity to do. When referring to sex, it means voluntarily choosing not to engage in sexual activity until marriage. Sexual activity refers to any type of genital contact or sexual stimulation including, but not limited to, sexual intercourse. Abstinence

Did You Know? • 8 out of 10 people do not know that they have an STD (meaning they have no initial signs or symptoms) • STD’s affect more women than they do men (1 in 4 women have an STD) and complications from STDs are more severe and more frequent among women because women are more susceptible to reproductive cancers and infertility caused by STDs • STDs are the most common diseases in America next to the common cold and flu • Over 60% of all STD’s occur in persons younger than 25 years of age • STDs infect over 3 million teenagers a year • Girls are 4X more like to get an STD than pregnant • Condoms fail 15-36% of the time in preventing pregnancy and cannot guarantee protection against any STD

  20. All forms of sex can transmit STDs- skin-to-skin contact, mutual masturbation, oral sex, vaginal sex, anal sex…it’s all sex! • HPV-Human Papilloma Virus, is commonly called genital warts. Causes over 97% of cervical cancer. Most HPV infections show no symptoms, there is no cure, and condoms do not protect you from this virus. 5,000 women die each year from cervical cancer. • Approximately 18.9 million new cases of STDs occur each year. • There are currently more than 25 types of STDs; some are curable, others are not. The number of STDs continues to increase each year. • In 2002, 12% of all pregnancies, or 757,000, occurred among adolescents aged 15-19. These numbers are now increasing and seven out of ten adolescent mothers drop out of high school. Did You Know?

  22. Think everybody’s doing it? They’re NOT! You don’t have to be either. 54% of 9th - 12th grade students in America are virgins - they have never had sex!

  23. GOOD NEWS…You can start over!Of the 46% who have had sex, many of them regret it and are choosing to start over (sometimes called secondary virginity).

LIVING IT OUT • Write it down, believe in yourself, and be assertive • Set specific physical boundaries today • Set your standards high…before the heat is on! • Plan your dates and don’t spend long periods of time together alone • Set specific standards for those you date • Communicate clearly with those you date • Dress appropriately – don’t advertise what’s not for sale! • Keep the focus on the friendship • Avoid alcohol and drugs • Tell a good friend you trust and find support
