The Great Salvation • There is a purpose in what is written about this • First spoken by the Lord (Mk. 1:14; 16:15) • Confirmed by witnesses {eye/ear} (Lk. 1:1-3; Acts 4:20) • Proven by signs, wonders, miracles, and gifts (Jn. 3:2; Mk. 16:20; Acts 2:22) • All this is said in order “to make no mistake about it”

  3. Be Careful About Neglect • Neglect is not rebellion, but a lack of attention; indifference • Contributing factors • Deceitful nature of sin (Heb. 3:12) • Illusion of plenty of time (James 4:13-14) • “Burdened” with cares (Lk. 8:14) • “I’m an exception” (Rom. 2:11)

  4. Drift Away From Them Literally “run out as leaking vessels.” “Lapse from truth and goodness is more often the result of inattention than of design. Drifting is a mark of death: giving heed, of life. The log drifts with the tide: the ship breasts the adverse waves, because some one is giving earnest heed” (VWS) Cf. Hebrews 12:1

  5. A Just Recompense Of Reward Not through whim According to our own choices and conduct (Gal. 6:7; 2 Cor. 5:10) Pay Very Close Attention The “more earnest heed” {close attention} (v. 1) Because you CAN fall away God is “a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” Heb. 11:6)
