  1. MEET the TEACHER Night Grade 4

  2. Specialist schedule • Gym is Tuesday and Friday • Music is Monday and Wednesday • Library is Tuesday • French takes place every day (a copy of our class schedule will be posted on the class webpage.)

  3. Homework • Homework will usually be sent home once per week. The morning that homework is turned in it will be corrected together. • Please encourage your child to share their strategy with you. • Students will receive homework in math to support areas being worked on in the curriculum.

  4. Homework (cont) • Students will also receive a reading project approximately once a month that they will complete on a book they have been reading at home. • Students should not spend more than 30 minutes on homework per night. If they are having difficulty please send in a note to let me know. • Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per day.

  5. Where and When to do homework? • It is great if kids can do their homework at the same time each day, this helps them to establish a routine each day. • Students should be able to do homework in an area that is quiet and free from distractions. • Students are expected to complete homework on their own. If your child is having difficulty with their homework, please let us know!

  7. Social Studies! • Unit one: Introduction to explorations • Unit two: explorers past and present • Unit three: exploring the world today • Unit four: exploring Canada today

Writers and Readers Workshop What does workshop look like? *Both readers and writers workshop begin with a mini-lesson that lasts about 10 - 15 minutes. *Followed by approximately 20 to 30 minutes of writing or reading to practice concept *Ending with a chance for students to share ideas, approximately 10-15 minutes

Language Arts curriculum Speaking and Listening • GCO 1Students will be expected to speak and listen to explore, extend, clarify, and reflect on their thoughts, ideas, feelings, and experiences. • GCO 2Students will be expected to communicate information and ideas effectively and clearly, and to respond personally and critically. • GCO 3Students will be expected to interact with sensitivity and respect, considering the situation, audience, and purpose.

Reading • GCO 4Students will be expected to select, read, and view with understanding a range of literature, information, media, and visual texts. • GCO 5Students will be expected to interpret, select, and combine information using a variety of strategies, resources, and technologies. • GCO 6Students will be expected to respond personally to arange of texts. • GCO 7Students will be expected to respond critically to a range of texts, applying their understanding of language, form, and genre.

Writing • GCO 8Students will be expected to use writing and other ways of representing to explore, clarify, and reflect on their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and learning; and to use their imagination. • GCO 9Students will be expected to create texts collaboratively and independently, using a variety of forms for a range of audiences and purposes. • GCO 10Students will be expected to use a range of strategies to develop effective writing and other ways of representing and to enhance their clarity, precision, and effectiveness.
