Flood Insurance Map Updates • FEMA continues to update flood maps across the entire United States. • New construction and development, environmental changes and updates in levee classifications change flood risks and require map rewrites. • New maps reflect the change in exposure to flood risks – either higher or lower.

  34. Changes in Cost for Flood Insurance • New maps result in a change in the premium charge for flood insurance. • Communities must adopt new flood maps. • Buildings moving from a low risk to a moderate or high risk zone could qualify for a discounted preferred risk extension policy.

  35. What is a Flood? • A temporary inundation of two or more properties from: • Overflow of inland or tidal waters. • Rapid accumulation or runoff of water. • Mudflow.

  36. Who is in a Flood Zone? • EVERYONE! • While some homes are in high-risk flood zones and others are in low-risk flood zones, every home in every community that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program is located in a flood zone. • Weichert Insurance can determine which zone.
