  1. Market Research By Tom Barrett

  2. Types of Market Research • When it comes to market research of photography, there is loads of different ways you can advertise your photography. One of those ways that you can advertise your photography is on billboards or backs of buses or telephone boxes ETC. If your type of photography was portraiture for example, it possibly wouldn’t be best to do it on the side of a phone box as it wouldn’t appeal to many people that use it possibly, The best way to advertise your photography would be in a magazine or in a newspaper, advertising in one of these can be costly though depending on the size of the add and what type of paper you are trying to advertise in (Local or worldwide), the going rate on a local newspaper in Bournemouth if it is a medium size advert (including VAT), is around £140 + for a week (pictures not included). The going rate for a large advertisement including photos for 1 whole week is £424.20 including VAT. • If you were going to advertise on a billboard which would also be a recommendation, for a local place such as Bournemouth it is going to cost you around £1500 for a whole month with an audience (amount of people passing past and looking at the ad) of 259,029 people per month which can make it a very effective way of advertising your photography and making profit.

  3. Target Audience • The target audience on family portraiture would be: • A family looking to get a nice family photo for possible photographic memorabilia. • People that send out pictures of their family's to show how their family is doing on say a Christmas card or a birthday card. • A couple looking to get their first photos of their new born baby.

  4. Statistics • Over 50,000 people have purchased portraiture from the company Venture • So far, 5 photojournalists have died so far in the conflict in Lybia

  5. My ideas about the mask and objects • Since my theme was friendship but it did change slightly to family, I have an idea that the mask should have 4 faces such as the average family consists of 4 members: the mother, the father, the son and the daughter, the mask representing each of the four family members. • For the object my theme is “retroness” so my object will most likely be an old Atari joystick as that is old and I have one in my possesion.

  6. How do my ideas relate back to the market research • Since I did research on how much it would cost to advertise my photography and portraiture on to the back of buses and on billboard that are 48 sheet, I feel these are the best ways to advertise my photos because these are the things noticed and used most in a “tourist packed” town, it would most likely be my object photography advertised on the back of the buses because its all linked in with technology and mechanical parts. I would advertise my portraiture on the billboards because not only is it more likely to get sales, but since it is more likely to get sales, having an audience of 200,000 + people a month looking at it, it would be best that t is big and bold and sticks out.
