  3. Mission Statement • At Griffin Elementary, we ignite a passion for learning by providing dynamic, targeted instruction through goal-oriented teaching. It is our desire to provide every child with the values, knowledge and skills needed to achieve maximum potential. We challenge all students to become capable, confident, life-long learners, critical thinkers, effective communicators, and ethical contributors to society. We celebrate the uniqueness of each individual learner and strive to enable all students and staff to achieve their goals in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment of mutual respect where school, home, and community support one another.

Goals • Griffin Elementary’s student-centered environment embraces the unique learning styles of all students. • It is the goal for each and every Grizzly to become a capable, confident and life-long learner. • Through discovery and exploration, students will gain values, knowledge and skills to reach their maximum potential. • Unique Programs such as Character Counts focus on the whole student, teaching the value of respect, responsibility, generosity and perseverance.

Special Curriculum Programs • Challenge- pull out program for students identified as Gifted and Talented • ESL- pull out/push in program for students identified as English as a Second Language. • SMILE- academic support class for students struggling in Math or who have failed the STAAR test. • SAIL- academic support class for students struggling in Reading or who have failed the STAAR test.

  12. Extra-Curricular Programs • Destination Imagination- • Destination Imagination® Inc. teaches creativity, teamwork and problem solving to students across the U.S. and in more than 30 countries. Destination Imagination® is an unconventional team learning experience where student teams all over the world solve mind-bending Challenges. Teams are tested to think on their feet, work as a team, and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the Challenges. Participants gain more than just basic knowledge and skills—they learn to unleash their imaginations and take unique approaches to problem solving. • Read-Deed-Run- • Read, Deed, and Run is a program in which 4th and 5th grade students meet after school on a Friday to run one mile or perform a deed. During the course of the program students perform 13 good deeds in the community, read 13 books, and run 13.1 miles. RDR culminates with a 1.1 mile fun run. • Student Council- • Representatives from grade 3-5 meet monthly to organize school events, fundraisers and service projects for the school to complete.

  13. Curriculum Nights • Griffin Elementary host three curriculum nights to promote a home/school link so parents gain an understanding of what their children learn at school and how they learn it. • Math Night • Literacy Night

  14. Math Night Parents and students rotate through stations and practice math skills.

  15. Literacy Night Teacher demonstration of a read-aloud. Students making bookmarks in Art. Students playing games at the various stations.

  16. Service Projects • Throughout the school years projects that serve the community are completed by grade levels and the campus at large. Below are examples of projects that have been completed. • Project Linus- making quilts for children in hospitals • Caps 4 Cubs- knitting caps for newborns • Book Drive- send books to schools in Africa • Love on a Leash- community dog walk that raised funds for Pets 4 Vets • Griffin Fun Run- annual fun run that raises awareness and funds for a selected organization • Math-A-Thon- raise fund for St. Jude’s Hospital
