  2. This Presentation Will Cover: • A tour of the grounds and facilities of Treehaven and CWES • An outline of the academic programs • A preview of recreational opportunities • Instructions for registering

  3. Treehaven is a 1400 acre facility near Tomahawk

  4. Housing at Treehaven – Okray Living Centers • All rooms are carpeted, with two sets of bunk beds, table with chairs, two dressers, two wardrobes and a private bathroom.

  5. Treehaven is located east of Tomahawk, WI

  6. CWES is a 300 acre facility on Sunset Lake near Amherst

  7. Housing at CWES – Log Cabins or Anderson Lodge

  21. We have recreational equipment available for your use:Camping Canoeing Kayaking Softball Volleyball Disc Golf Fishing

  22. Of course the grounds are great for jogging, hiking and relaxing

  23. Residential Living There will be a residential living position at Treehaven and at CWES to help provide and ensure an academically welcoming and safe living and studying environment for all. This position will be in close contact with both Residential Living and the Dean of Students Office.

  24. Registration and Procedures

  25. Field Techniques in Natural Resources - 2014 Dates: Session 1: May 18 – June 27 (including Memorial Day) Session 2 and 3: July 6 – August 15

  26. Beginning February 10, applications and informational packets will be available on the Student Success Center website: www.uwsp.edu/cnr/StudentSuccessCenter

  27. Application Deadline is noon on February 24, 2014 – NO LATE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED!

  28. After the session lists are posted across from 180 CNR on April 14th • Pay a $100summer tuition deposit via your MyPoint or at the Bursar’s Office, 001 Student Services Building. • If the deposit is not paid and you are not registered by April 30,2014, you will be dropped from the program and your spot will be given to the next student on the waiting list.

  29. Registration By April 14th, you will also receive electronic permissions to register for the 7 – one credit classes. This does not register you for these classes but gives you permission to register. On your Fall 2014 registration date, you will need to select the Summer 2014 term and click on these permissions to actually register.

  30. Academic Requirements and Selection

  31. Students must have…. • 2.00 GPA in major • Complete NRES 150, 151, 250and 251 by the end of the spring 2014 semester.

  32. Students will be placed into sessions based on the following criteria: • All students with an in-major grade point average of 2.00 or higher will be considered. • Letter from a relevant employer or military unit (deadline noon March 31, 2014) may give you preferential registration in Session I. • Qualifying students will then be ranked by total credits completed.

  33. What if I don’t currently have a 2.00 GPA in major? • Submit the Treehaven application by noon on February 24th. • You will then be put on a waiting list for Session II or III. • You will be added to Session II or III in early June IF your GPA in major improves to 2.00 or higher AND there are spots remaining.

  34. Changes??? If you wish to switch sections, remove your name from the waiting list, drop Treehaven… please e-mail Sue Kissinger and include your ID number.

  35. MONEY ISSUES

  37. Equipment Package • All students will be required to purchase an equipment package • The package includes: Hardhat, Compass, Clipboard , Write-in-the Rain Notebook, Engineer’s Scale, Protractor, Ruler, Hand Lens, Dot Grid • The cost of this packet is included in your course fees

  39. Employment Opportunities

  40. TEACHING ASSISTANTS • Up to 13 Teaching Assistant’s (6-week TA’s) will be hired to assist the faculty members at Treehaven and CWES. • TA’s would attend one of the sessions and assist at the other one.

  41. CWES 2-week TA Two TA’s are also needed at the 2-week CWES program (May 19 – 30) for Waste Management majors and students attending the European Environmental Studies Seminar. To apply, fill out the TA application (blue) and check the appropriate box.

  42. PLANT TA’s 12-week Plant TA – works at Treehaven for the whole summer. Must have previously completed the summer field experience. 6-week Plant TA – attend Session 1 at Treehaven and works as a Plant TA for the CWES Field Experienc

  43. Applying for a TA or Plant TA position • Applications are available in 180 CNR and on the web at www.uwsp.edu/cnr/StudentSuccessCenter • The Application Deadline is February 24 at noon

  46. Scholarships • There will be about 43 scholarships ($300 - $1000) given out to students who filled out the CNR Scholarship application last November. • Students will be notified of their scholarships by mail in mid-March • All 6-week TA’s will be awarded a $250-$1000 scholarship, depending on GPA and CNR scholarship application, to help pay for the summer field experience.
