BalticClimate - Results, Indicators, and Main Outputs of the Project

This project aims to measure the quality of work and progress of activities in achieving the objectives of tackling climate change in the Baltic Sea region. It focuses on immediate effects, measurement instruments, and immediate products delivered by the project.

BSR Programme – keep in mind … Strategic objective: „to make the Baltic Sea region an attractive place to invest, work and live in“ Comprehensive structure • Every project has to follow the structure • No rigid structure, but offers a certain freedom of choice concerning project Priority and Results • BalticClimate already decided in favour of its Priority and Results during application phase (see coloured boxes)

Objectives of the BalticClimate project • Co-operative, integrative and sustainable way for authorities, regions and local stakeholders to handle the climate change • Climate change as a challenge as well as a chance for local and regional sustainable development • Competitiveness of the BSR in Europe and worldwide • Shared co-oporate identity for the BSR

Priority 4: Attractive & competitive cities and regions Expected project results in general: • Pooled resources of metropolitan regions, cities and rural areas to enhance the Baltic Sea Region’s competitiveness and cohesion • Improved preconditions for Baltic Sea Region’s competitiveness in Europe and worldwide • Increased region’s identity and its recognition • Strengthened social conditions and impacts of regional and city development

Common Result: Increased political recognition (I) 3 Indicators for the measurement of activities are predefined by the BSR Programme: • Number of politicans directly involved in project activities • Number of open public events with politicans participation • Number of political statements to be endorsed, resulting from project activities and signed within the project • All PPs have to report to these Indicators

Common Result: Increased political recognition (II) 4 Indicators for the measurement of activities are proposed by the BalticClimate project: • Number of Transnational Seminars • Number of local and regional Workshops • Number of decision makers / providers of decisions participating at Transnational Seminars or local and regional Workshops • Number of local and regional strategies and documents integrating project conclusions and information • All PPs have also to report to these Indicators

Priority 4 Specific Results of BSR Programme (I) a) Pooled resources of metropolitan regions, cities and rural areas to enhance the BSR competitiveness and cohesion • Improvement of capability and cooperation of cities and rural areas • Handling the climate change in an integrated way in every-day practice • Short and long term decisions in sustainable urban and regional development b) Improved preconditions for increase of BSR competitiveness in Europe and worldwide • Upgraded understanding of the climate change • Chance and capital for economic activities • Enlarged set of transferable tools

  14. Priority 4 Specific Results of BSR Programme (II) What remains to be done? • WP leaders have to formulate a few Indicators concerning these Priority Specific Results until July 2009. • All PPs have to report to all the Indicators for Common Results as well as Specific Results.
