  1. Session 11: Reporting ADS development activities in Asia Prof. Pyeon (Kyoto) presented Energy amplifier system using ADS with high-energy protons ADS experiments with 100 MeV protons and 14 MeVneutrons Prof. Chai (Korea) presented Current Status of NPPs in Korea In operation : 23 units ,Under construction(3.8GWe): 3 PWRs,Under license review(5.6GWe): 4 PWRs ADS research by KAERI and SKKU R&D plans: Development of high energy high current ( 5MW) cyclotron accelerator system for accelerator driven thorium based nuclear reactor: injector LINAC, intermediate stage cyclotron, final stage high energy cyclotron, high energy high current (1 GeV, 12mA,) beam transportation system

  2. Session 11: Reporting ADS development activities in Asia The motivation for these (University) research projects stems from the public pressure to stop producing radioactive wastes in operating nuclear power plants and to have available a reliable production of electricity. A similar situation in Switzerland and Germany. Government decisions not to replace existing NPP. A majority of parliament follows. In Switzerland a popular vote will take place next year on modification of law on energy. How to use the results of this conference ? to show the destructive effects of wind and sun power on the economy (destabilizing factors instead of power stations) to advance the case for thorium based nuclear energy?
