  1. LEARNING IN SEMI-VIRTUAL CAMPUS – DEVELOPING PEDAGOGICAL GROUNDS OF EDINET-PROJECT Irmeli Maunonen-Eskelinen Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, Teacher Education, Finland Jari Hautamaki Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, School of Information Technology, Finland 6th Int. Conference onEmerging e-learning Technologies and ApplicationsThe High Tatras, SlovakiaSeptember 11-13, 2008 Teacher Education College

  2. Teacher Education College E-learning in Distributed Data Network Laboratory –project (Edinet) • aims at to establish an e-learning environment which is based on the ideas of life-long learning. • seven European universities create semi-virtual campus in the field of Information Technology

  3. Teacher Education College Why Edinet? • Work has become more and more distributed and networked since traditional boundaries of work communities disappear. • Therefore students need to be equipped with skills which enable them to work in such an environment. • Distributed working and learning mean new pedagogical and technological challenges.

  4. Teacher Education College Implementation of the European education policy in Edinet-project • The project develops a system of using technical resources of the partner universities in order to increase learning opportunities of students and experts in the field of information technology • forms an arena to share expertise of each university and an individual teacher and an expert (education systems, curricula and innovations in training) • mutual learning addresses development of modern competences of students and teachers

  5. Teacher Education College Semi Virtual Campus

  6. Teacher Education College E-Learning • Effective e-learning context requires following elements (Hamid 2002): • (1) Information architecture • (2) User interface design • (3) Content strategy • (4) Pedagogical dimensions

  7. Learning • Evaluation & feedback • Pedagogical models for learning • Tutoring and learning management • Target groups and skills • Developing competencies using flexible, ICT supported learning opportunities in the framework of life long learning • Efficiency and recognition of acquired skills • Value • Individual • Contents and design systems • Technological mechanisms • Reliability & accessbility & scalability • Infrastructure Teacher Education College Elements of e-learning

  8. Teacher Education College Blended learning • refers to the use of resources which combine electronic-learning or mobile-learning with other educational resources • mix-and-match approach • international context and blended learning strategies increase learning opportunities for students as well as teaching staff

  9. Teacher Education College Pedagogical principles • Principle of constructing knowledge based on partnerships • Principle of collaborative learning • Principle of contextuality of learning • Principle of self-directed learning

  10. Teacher Education College Context awareness in e-learning (Zheng and Yoneo 2007)

  11. Teacher Education College Summary • Edinet Semi virtual campus offers real open educational resources. • Edinet gives a realistic solution to reduce costs of the expensive individual laboratories. • In addition it forms rich and interesting educational setting in which the pedagogical ideas, views and strategies could be explored.
