This presentation by Seokcheon Lee provides a comprehensive overview of coupled quintessence and its role in cosmology. It discusses experimental evidence, modifications of gravity, and various models, including scalar-tensor theories and brane models. Key highlights include the effects of quintessence couplings on matter and radiation, the evolution of the cosmic background, the cosmic microwave background (CMB) spectrum, and the matter power spectrum. The findings suggest that coupled quintessence may offer better consistency with current data compared to the standard ΛCDM model, indicating potential new insights into dark energy dynamics.

Coupled Quintessence & Its Application To Cosmology KPS82. Apr.21. 06 Seokcheon Lee Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica
Outline • Experimental Evidences • Modifications of Gravity • Models • Effects of Quintessence Couplings to Matter & Radiation • Evolution of Background • CMB Spectrum • Matter Power Spectrum • Time Varying Alpha • Summary
Experimental Evidences • SNe Ia ( z < 2, Multi Integral) • WMAP • Age of Universe • Clustering of Matter SDSS, 2dFGRS
Modifications of Gravity • Scalar-Tensor Theories • Modified Newtonian Gravity (MOND) • Brane Models (Warped, Large Extra Dimensions) • f(R) Gravity
Quintessence • Quintessence = Fifth Element • Air, Earth, Fire, Water (In Alchemy) • b, DM, n, g (In Cosmology) • Tip : Milla Jovovich (In Film)
Model • Coupled Quintessence (S.L, K.Olive, M.Pospelov, 04) • Potential : • Coupling :
Evolution of Background I • Energy-momentum conservation
Linear Perturbation I • Conformal Newtonian Gauge (H.Kodama, M.Sasaki, 1984)
Linear Perturbation II • Boltzmann equations
Isocurvature condition • Pressure Fluctuation • At Tracking Region
CMB I • (S.L 05)
CMB II • SL,GC Liu, KW Ng (06)
Summary • Coupled QCDM seems to be consistent with current data (better than LCDM ?). • Combination of CMB and Matter Power Spectrum survey will be able to give limit of coupling between DE and DM. (n ~ O(2)). • Quintessence can explain time varying alpha. • Is there any possible DE couplings to baryons and (or) to radiation?
