  2. “The Future of Army Aviation” AHS Dinner Meeting, November 13, 2007 About our speaker .... COL Theresa Barton, TRADOC System Manager Colonel Theresa Barton was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant after graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1981. After completing the Air Defense Officer Basic Course, Airborne, and Air Assault Schools, she began rotary wing aviation training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Upon graduating from flight school, COL Barton served as a Training Officer at Fort Ord, California. Her duties at Fort Ord also included Battalion Adjutant and Flight Platoon Leader. In 1985, she returned to Fort Rucker to attend the Aviation Officer Advanced Course and transition course for Chinook helicopters. COL Barton’s follow-on duty was as an Operations Officer in the 205th Aviation Company in Finthen, Germany. While in Germany, she also served as the Executive Officer, CH47 Company Commander, and the Brigade Adjutant for the 12th Aviation Brigade. Upon 12th Aviation Brigade’s return from the Gulf War, COL Barton was assigned to the University of Chicago where she received a Master’s Degree in Political Science. In 1993, she moved to West Point, New York, to teach International Relations at the United States Military Academy. After two years at West Point, COL Barton moved to Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, to attend the Air Force Command and Staff College. Upon graduation, she served as the 1st Aviation Brigade S3, followed by the Deputy Brigade Commander. In 1999, COL Barton assumed command of the 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment at Camp Humphreys, Korea. After 24 months of commanding a CH47 Battalion, she was sent to Stanford, California, in lieu of the Army War College, to serve an Army Fellowship at the Hoover Institution. Upon completion of her fellowship, COL Barton moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to become the Chief of Staff for the 6th Recruiting Brigade. Prior to assuming duties as TSM Lift she served as the Deputy Commander of the 6th Recruiting Brigade. COL Barton has a Master of Science in International Relations and a Master of Arts in Political Science. Her awards and decorations include a Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and Senior Aviator, Airborne, and Air Assault Wings. COL Barton is married and they have two children.
