  1. The HEART project in Southern Sudan Health, Education And Rural Transformation

  2. Health • 10 student health workers selected for training. Course started 1st February. They will graduate in November 09. • Construction of PHCC at Lainya progressing well. Roof on. (BSF is part-funding). • Solar vaccine fridge selected and ordered. • Motorcycle for medical outreach to IDP camp near Lainya selected and ordered. First visits have been made and liaison meeting held with UNOCHA. Mosquito nets distributed.

  3. Health and Water • Vehicle for mobile clinic in Yei and Morobo counties has been tendered and ordered. • Meetings held with County Health Officers and locations agreed for mobile clinic. Staff being recruited. Service should start in July assuming vehicle arrives. • Quotations have been sought for borehole drilling. Difficult to determine if all drilling companies meet BSF requirements. Drilling should start in May 09.

  4. Education and organisational • 2 Primary Schools funded. Selection of contractors has begun. BoQ and plans are prepared. Work on the first school should start in May 09 and the second in September 09. • 2 trainee teachers were selected and in March began a full-time training course at Yei Teacher Training College (YTTC). • The first short-course for 40 teachers will take place at YTTC next month. • Our Project Managers are in place and our project office in Yei is fully operational.
