Discussion • Understand the granularity of occupations in the SOC by reviewing the detailed occupations • Particularly for Information System occupations where there is a healthcare designation reported by employers • Review the options for where to classify new health IT occupations • Discuss the pro’s and con’s of each option • Discuss what differentiates a health IT occupation

Option 1: Build on existing Minor Groupunder 29-2000 Health Technologists & Technicians • 29-2070 Medical Records and Health Information Technicians (Broad Group) • 29-2071 Medical Records and Health Information Technicians • Options: • Request modification of Broad Group title and/or description • Modify existing 29-2071 (Medical Records and Health Information Technicians) • Request additional occupations under this group
Option 2: Request New Detailed Occupations to the 15-0000 Computer and Mathematical Occupations • Need to recognize that there are healthcare designations for detailed occupations under these broad groups: • Computer and Information Analysts • Software Developers and Programmers • Database and Systems Administrators and Network Architects • Computer Support Specialists • With a healthcare designation is more needed? • If so, what? • Are there other Information Systems Support roles that aren’t reflected? • In O*Net Nurse Informaticists were placed under Computer and Information Analysts rather than Healthcare. • Do we think informaticist roles should be under healthcare? Why?
