  3. Animal Cell Why are these cells not round in shape as they are usually depicted? Both pictures are of human cheek cells.

  4. Common Plant and Animal Stains • Iodine • Stains carbohydrates in plants bluish/black. • Stains glycogen red. • Where is glycogen only found? • Methylene Blue • Stains acidic cell parts (like nucleus) blue. Use on animal bacteria and blood specimens.

  5. Common Stains, cont. • Eosin Y • Stains alkaline cell parts (like cytoplasm) pink. • Use on plants, animals, blood. • Toluidene Blue • Stains acidic parts of cells (like nucleus) dark blue. • Good to show mitosis in plant cells
