  2. “Revision is at the heart of the writing process.” ~ Lucy Calkins Revision is MOST of what great writers do. IDEAS are everywhere – a writer can write about anything DRAFTING is quick – is writing down an idea as it flows EDITING is easy – it’s just checking for spelling, grammar, and punctuation PUBLISHING is fun – you will soon have a finished work in your hands. But revision REVISION is where the true work and Excellence of a writer can be seen! Revision is Rewording and Rewriting

Checking for punctuation or spelling mistakes (that’s editing)  • Posting your work on for all to see (that’s publishing)  • Making something the writing perfect the first time (that’s impossible)  • Leaving all the words you already wrote and just adding more (some words need changed or deleted)  • A one-time thing (some authors revise 100’s of times)  NOPE! Revision is NOT

  4. Clarifying – Does your writing make sense? • Changing – Is there a better way to say that? • Deleting – Did you say something too many times or are all those words necessary? • Perfecting – Is that the perfect word for what you are trying to say? Is there a better one? • Adding – Is there something missing, something that would make it better? • Discussing– Do others understand your work? Do they have questions or suggestions? Revision IS

  6. Revision can be done again and again, over and over, until you as an author feel like it is perfect. Idea Draft Revise Revising is done many times and at any time. An author can revise an idea, revise a draft, revise while editing…or go anytime to polish their work. Multiple revisions are usually made to drafts. Publish Edit

  7. It helps others understand. • It improves word choice. • It adds great detail. • It takes away the boring parts. • It brings our stories to a place where they engulf our readers. • It improves us as writers. Revision makes our writing great!
