This homework assignment invites students to explore significant portraits that capture their interest. From Chuck Close's 'Maggie' (1996) to Andy Warhol's 'Lavender Marilyn' (1962), students will select a portrait, which could be a painting, photograph, or sculpture. They will place it in the center of their page and analyze the artist's use of elements such as subject, form, shape, color, pattern, line, tone, and texture. This activity encourages an appreciation for the artists’ techniques and the emotional narratives behind their works.
