Understanding Attitudes Toward Part-Time Professional Employees in Organizations

This analysis presents insights into the attitudes of HR professionals regarding part-time professional employees, based on a survey conducted among 488 randomly selected individuals. Although only 21% of the 2,409 emails sent received responses, the findings reveal varied opinions on the integration and perception of part-time workers within organizations. Many HR professionals noted that attitudes vary by department, with benefits and management views significantly influencing the experience of part-time employees. These insights are crucial for organizations considering part-time arrangements and their impact on workplace dynamics.

  6. Other • Attitudes vary based upon department. Some allow for PT work and think it is positive, others do not allow pt schedules. • Benefits do become an issue. • Currently there is no feedback in this area. • In some cases we offer part-time employment to workers who are nearing retirement. Some co-workers view that as a waste of company resources. • Many of our part-time employees are retired employees returning to the workforce • Many times the part time is for a period of time, due to employee needs • N/A • Part-time professionals are sometimes resented because they have often negotiated benefits and privileges that aren't normally available to part-time employees. • Professional employees do not begin employment as part-time status. They usually have child/eldercare needs that force them to work part-time schedules. • Seems to work best in single incumbent positions where others are not highly dependent on the part-time worker. • They are considered "temporary" employees. • They are seen as space takers. • They are talented people that are committed to the business, however, they need part time arrangements generally to care for family. • They have different rights during lay-offs under Civil Service • This is a second job for them • Those working a 4-day work-week as negotiated at offer are treated the same. 15-20 hr. workers are viewed as less critical. • too new to company to know • unknown
