  1. Lyme disease

  2. Some symptoms of Lyme disease are: fever, headache, exhaustion, and a rash. Doctors diagnose Lyme disease based on the symptoms/physical findings (like a rash). Lyme disease is caused be infected deer ticks. The scientific name for Lyme disease is Borreila burgdorferi. If left untreated then the disease could spread throughout your body.

  3. One way you can prevent getting Lyme disease is to be extra careful in the warmer months, and make sure not to walk in tall grass or any places were ticks could hide. If you are going to have to be treading into tall grass then your best way of protection would be to wear long sleeved shirts and socks that are tucked in. Also your clothing should be lightly-colored so that if there is a tick on you, you can see it. Deer ticks are (deer is in the name) found on or near deer. Doctors diagnose Lyme disease based on symptoms/physical findings (like a rash). Doctors can also run a blood test that will identify if you have antibodies in your body to fight Lyme disease. If they are there then you know that you are infected because if you didn’t have the disease then you wouldn’t need the antibodies to fight it off. If left untreated then the disease could spread throughout your body. If that happens then your rash could grow larger, you could start to develop arthritis, or you could you could start having problems with your vision and hearing.

  4. The main treatment for Lyme disease is to take antibiotics. Some antibiotics that you can take are: doxycycline for adults and children older than 8, or amoxicillin or cefuroxime for kids, and pregnant or breast-feeding women. If you take these the infection normally heals up in two to three weeks. http://arthritis.webmd.com/tc/lyme-disease-topic-overview http://www.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/lyme-disease/ References:
