This piece explores the remarkable voyages of the Chinese naval fleet led by Admiral Zheng He during the early 15th century. His fleet embarked on seven expeditions, the first featuring 317 ships and approximately 28,000 crew members. Zheng He, a former captive who became an influential advisor to the Yongle Emperor, significantly impacted maritime exploration. Despite his endeavors, the voyages ceased after the Hongxi Emperor's reign. Ultimately, the fleet's vessels were destroyed, and China missed opportunities for global expansion as European powers began their colonial conquests.
