This study investigates the effects of caffeinated coffee on focus levels among students, amidst the rising trend of caffeine consumption in educational settings. By conducting a controlled experiment with blind testing, participants will receive either caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee without their knowledge. The study aims to assess whether caffeine significantly enhances focus or if any perceived benefits are due to the placebo effect. Variables such as age, gender, coffee brand, and previous coffee experience will be considered to ensure reliable results over multiple semesters.

PLACEBO & PLACEBO EFFECT • Students who receive the placebo will be given decaffeinated coffee to effectively determine if the absence of caffeine results in a change in focus. • The placebo effect could essentially result in the decaffeinated coffee giving the effects of caffeine, which include jitteriness and heightened levels of focus to the students.
Blocking • Students will be separated into grades because caffeine can have different effects on students of different age levels (this includes maturity). • Within those groups students will be divided into male and female groups because physical differences within this category can result in a different effects.
Replications • Data shall be collected one week per semester each year to track the changing effects of caffeine and whether or not focus increases during its consumption.
Confounding • Variables that could possibly confuse data include: • Brands of coffee • Strengths of coffee • Amounts • Previous experiences with drinking coffee.
Conclusion • The expected conclusion for this experiment is that the students that drank the caffeinated coffee will have a higher level of focus during schoo.
