  1. Heydar Aliyev: (1993-2003) Wasthe leader of Soviet Azerbaijan, effectively dominating the political life of Azerbaijan for many years.

  2. Lev Davidovich Landau: (1908-1968), Jewish theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate, noted chiefly for his pioneer work in low-temperature physics (cryogenics).

  3. Samad Vurgun: (1906-1956) Poet, playwriter, academician, Deputy of the USSR Supreme Soviet, member of Azerbaijan'sParliament, Vice-President of Azerbaijan's Academy of Sciences, Member of the Soviet Peace Committee, President of the Writer's Union in Baku, and recipient of both the Stalin and Lenin Prizes, twice each.

  4. Bul-Bul: (1897-1971)is Emblematic of Azerbaijan, as an artist who made the best synthesis of east and west.

  5. Zeynalabdin Taghiyev: (1838-1924) was an Azeri national industrial magnate and philantrophist.

  6. Nasreddin Tusi: (1201-1274)an encyclopedic scientist, philosopher, socio-political figure.

  7. Babak Khoramdin: (795-837) is considered as one of the most heroic freedom fighters of Iran who initiated the Khoramdinan movement.
