  3. Phototropism • The growth of organisms in response to light • Auxin (chemical) • found in cells farthest from light source • released to increase growth • Positive – ? • Negative – ?

  4. Gravitropism • Turning or growth movement in response to gravity • AKA: Geotropism • Charles Darwin was one of the first to document this phenomenon • Positive – ? • Negative – ?

  5. Thigmotropism • Movement or growth in response to touch / contact • Auxin • What type of plants can you think of use thigmotropism? Mimosa pudica- Video Have you ever seen a plant play dead? Or move when tickled?

  6. Hydrotropism • Growth determined by gradient in water concentration
