Compare Exposure-- • 60 million plus dogs • 20 attacks/year/1000 dogs • 5 fatalities/year/million dogs • 1 million alligators • 0.01 attacks/year/1000 alligators • 1.4 fatalities/year/million alligators vs. If we correct for exposure! • 5 million attacks/year • 300+ fatalities/year • 10 attacks/year • 14 fatalities in past 10 years

  8. What is the Point? • The raw data doesn’t tell the whole story • “Exposure” is important, can allow better comparisons “Most transportation decisions are ultimately political in nature. For this reason, it is imperative to provide information derived from data-driven analysis.”
