  2. Who are we? Pennine Housing 2000 (PH2K) • LSVT from Calderdale MBC - Halifax • 12,759 properties in March 2001 • 400 staff – full and part time • Own maintenance team - 130 • Two contractor partners – Lovell and Keepmoat • £112m investment programme over 5 years from 2001 to 2006

  4. The Issues • Construction overheating • Ageing workforce • Lack of skills training • Need for Multiskilling • Social Inclusion aims • Little supply side control - ££s • Risks to the programme

Implementation • More Than Bricks and Mortar group • Representative Steering Group • JCP-Careers-SRB-CITB-Trainers-Schools • Commitment from partners and in-house • Multiple funding opportunities • ERDF - SRB – CITB – URBAN – Single Pot – sundry grants and the Companies involved – trainees do produce!

Successes • 41 Multi-skilling Apprentices • Multi-skilling teams in main workforce • 86% positive outcomes - jobs – self emp. • Over 1300 School Children engaged • 7 Intermediate Labour Market jobs • Increased (45%) local labour, subcontractor and supply targets met • Reputation, Influence, Feel Good factor

  12. Lessons • Start even earlier – funding lead times • Involve every agency you can think of • Take advantage of others experience • Know what yourmarket will stand • Hold out for the service you want • Get additional committed partners
