  2. Learning Targets • Reading to appreciate literature • Student’s will read a novel for understanding and appreciation. They will use time management efficiently to show their independence in completing assignments and • TSWBAT read a novel during down times in class and complete daily assignments and activities. • By the April 25, you will have read a selected novel in class and completed 5 +1 assignments on what you have read.

  3. Reading enrichment • You will be reading a novel on your own and completing assignments. • This will be along side other classwork that we will be working on and you will need to learn to manage your time in order to fit it in during class time. • You will be able to catch up on reading during SSR on Thursdays if you fall behind, but you should plan on using your class time that you have that is free to read. • If you need more time, you should plan on completing assignments outside of class as homework.

He is a boy now, but most consider him a monster--except for El Patrón. El Patrón loves Matt as he loves himself, because Matt is himself. • As Matt struggles to understand his existence. Escape is the only chance Matt has to survive. But escape from the Alacrán Estate is no guarantee of freedom, because Matt is marked by his difference in ways he doesn't even suspect. • You can do this during downtime in class. Focus on reading in class and do the assignments on your own time.

Ender’s Game – More challenging • By Orson Scott Card • Synopsis: Aliens have attacked in Earth space and the prognoses looks grim.  So in an effort to save humanity children are genetically created to be military geniuses.   • The Wiggins family has 3 three brilliant children: Ender, Peter, and Valentine.  But it is only the two boys who have a talent for things martial and that sets off the emotional dynamic in this series, especially after Ender is chosen for Battle School and sadistic Peter is excluded. • You will need to read the chapters in class and then go to the specified place on your teacher’s website to get assignments for each chapter to complete as homework. • You can do this during downtime in class. Focus on reading in class and do the assignments on your own time.

  6. Books: • Books must be read in the classroom. You cannot check out the books in the classroom. Other students will be using them. • You may check out the books from the library if you are absent and need to catch up. The county library is another resource to find the book if you cannot check out books at the school. • It is YOUR responsibility to use the time you are DONE with assignments in class to read. You will be given plenty of time to read in class. Assignments can be completed outside of class. You should not need to take the book home to read if you are on-task in class and reading. • Homework will be expected for this reading activity. You will need to complete the assignments as homework. Sometimes you will have enough time to work on the assignments in class, but it is always expected that you read here and work on assignments at home. • Time management is an important skill you will need to be successful in high school and life.

  7. 5 +1 assignments • Your task is to complete 5 assignments from the online list on my webpage. You can choose the assignments you complete. • At the end of the novel, you will need to complete one assignment from the final choice menu. • Your novel, 5 assignments, and final choice assignment will be due on April 25.
