  7. Recent tasks • Meeting with the Moore Foundation. Luis Solorzano (Andes-Amazon initiative Lead) and his aid traveled to Medellin,Colombia, to meet with G. Poveda to discuss research topics of common interest within the Andean-Amazon region in the near future. • The group has been invited to join project (UK PI, P. Meir) “Valuing rainforests as Global Eco-utilities: a novel mechanism to pay communities for regional scale tropical forest ecosystem services provided by the Amazon”. Meeting in Sao Jose dos Campos in April 2009.

  8. Recent tasks (Cont.) • A synthesis of eight years project: Biosphere-atmosphere interactions in La Gran Sabana, Parque Nacional Canaima, Edo. Bolívar, Venezuela, is on preparation. This project was acknowledged as an LBA project since the begining (1998). • Researchers of the project: LINKING KNOWLEDGE TO ACTION FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF RISK: MULTIDISCIPLINARY EFFORTS TO SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN CANAIMA NATIONAL PARK, VENEZUELA, are starting their second year of funding. Both projects have been founded by FONACIT-Venezuela. Project started in 2007. • In Bolivia has been created the “Vice Ministry for Biodiversity, Environment and Climate Change”. This Vice Ministry is now under the “Ministry for Water and the Environment”. Next week (on March 26th) it will be held a meeting (at the Ministry for Planning & Development) aimed to the identification of actors working in the Climate Change field.

ACTA DE CONSTITUCION DE LA RED ECUATORIANA DE INVESTIGACIONES AMAZONICAS (REDIAM) ANTECEDENTES: La presente acta constitutiva surge a partir de la necesidad manifestada en la mesa de diversidad amazónica conformada dentro del convenio bilateral ECUADOR-BRASIL, en relación a la necesidad de coordinar el trabajo de Instituciones Nacionales e Internacionales dedicadas a la investigación en la Región Amazónica Ecuatoriana. En los talleres convocados por el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, Ministerio del Ambiente y por la Secretaría Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología, realizados el 28 y 29 de Noviembre 2008 en el Coca y el 10 de diciembre del 2008 en Quito, mismos que contaron con la asistencia de instituciones involucradas en el desarrollo de investigación en la región amazónica, se identificaron problemáticas propias de la región, debilidad en el trabajo en conjunto e intercambio de información y ausencia de un ente coordinador responsable de aglutinar los esfuerzos realizados en materia de conocimiento e investigación.

  14. DENOMINACION: Con los antecedentes antes mencionados, en el presente taller se considera la necesidad de elaborar la presente acta en la que se acuerda establecer la RED ECUATORIANA DE INVESTIGACIONES AMAZONICAS “REDIAM”, misma que tendrá la responsabilidad de: coordinar, articular y promover la cooperación interinstitucional, interdisciplinaria, transdisciplinaria y multidisciplinaria, orientando esfuerzos, intereses y recursos, con la finalidad de contribuir al desarrollo sustentable de la Amazonia Ecuatoriana a través de la investigación, innovación y transferencia de conocimientos y tecnologías. Se considera parte de la presente acta las líneas de investigación, discutidas y consensuadas durante los talleres realizados y que se detallan en el Anexo adjunto. En la ciudad del Puyo a los 05 días del mes de Marzo del 2009, firman en constancia de lo actuado, los representantes legales, de las Instituciones de educación superior, centros de investigación, organizaciones gubernamentales, no gubernamentales y sociales, que realizan trabajos de investigación en la Amazonía ecuatoriana, y que participan voluntariamente en la reunión que dio origen a esta Acta.
