This project aims to integrate Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM) soil moisture data and the LPRM-enhanced EPIC crop model into operational systems at the USDA WAOB GLADSE. Efforts focus on customizing and producing new data, tools, and seamless integration into user environments. Key objectives include leveraging existing GES DISC web services and evaluating the impacts of integrated outputs on GLADSE forecasts. Early results indicate a significant enhancement in identifying analog years and calibrating analysis methodologies for various regions.

Objectives • To integrate Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM)soil moisture data into operational WAOB GLADSE. [seamless; customized] • To integrate LPRM-enhanced EPIC (Environmental Policy Integrated Climate) crop model into WAOB GLADSE. [changes] • To leverage existing GES DISC Web services to facilitate integration of project outputs into GLADSE. • To evaluate and benchmark impacts of integration of project outputs on GLADSE forecasts. Early Results • Satellite data are complementary to weather station data, in identifying analog years. • Results point to possibility of “calibrating” analog analysis methodology in station-rich areas, to be then applied in station-poor areas of the world. • Retrospective analog analysis as metric seems feasible.
