  2. What is JVS? • JVS (Jewish Vocational Service) is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization. We help people find meaningful employment and succeed in today’s workplace. • At JVS, we believe that work transforms lives. Job seekers who focus on increasing their work and job search skills are most likely to become employed. • We offer a diversity of employment and training programs free of charge to job seekers.

  3. JVS Sectors • We work with employers in many of the most high-growth industry sectors in the Bay Area.   6. Technology Access Center • The Technology Access Center (TAC) is a computer lab and resource library. You can use the TAC to look for a job, work on your resume, or build your computer skills with self-paced tutorials. • You must first attend a drop-in Enrollment Session: • Mondays, 2:00– 3:00 • Wednesdays, 2:30 – 3:30 • Fridays, 10:30 – 11:30

Job Search Skills Workshops JVS offers over 60 workshops every month, on topics such as: • Building Resumes and Cover Letters • Impactful Interviewing • Identifying Transferrable Skills • Successful Networking Techniques • How To Link Through LinkedIn and Beyond • Resume and Cover Letter Reviews (one-one-one feedback from employment specialists) JVS workshops are also offered in the Peninsula, East Bay and at other sites in San Francisco.   8. Computer Skills Training • Computer Skills Courses are typically 3 hours long and last 3-6 days. Courses include: • Word Basics and Intermediate • Excel Basics and Intermediate • Outlook • PowerPoint • Fundamentals of Computing • Advanced Workshops are 3 hours long and offered monthly. Workshops include: • Mail Merge, PivotTables and Excel Formulas & Functions Register online at jvs.org

Career Coaching • If you are working on clarifying your career goals or planning to change careers, then JVS Career Coaching can help you. • In Career Coaching, you will explore your strengths and weaknesses and develop direction for your job search. This usually takes around 3 to 5 sessions. • Career Coaching is the only JVS program that is fee for service. Each session is a $100 fee – 30% to 40% lower than what most agencies charge.

Supported Job Search For those who want a supported job search and have a specific, realistic employment goal, you may be assigned to a JVS Employment Specialist. • Your employment specialist will help you: • Focus on your specific job goal. • Perfect your resume and cover letters. • Identify challenges that are hindering your job search. • Work on job search skills. • Find resources to track down and pursue promising job leads.

Job Search Fundamentals • The focus of working with an employment specialist will be to build your job search skills and strategies. • To maximize your work with an employment specialist, you must first attend: • Resume Essentials I • Cover Letters I • Impactful Interviewing I • Job Search Planning

  19. Making the Most of Supported Job Search • When working with an employment specialist, you will: • Spend about 20 hours per week on job search activities such as doing research or attending workshops and employer spotlights. • Attend JVS workshops and labs at least once a month. • Contact your employment specialist at least once a month. • Complete job search tasks that you and your employment specialist have agreed to. • Give 24 hour notice if you need to cancel an appointment.

  20. Job Transition Assistance Services (JTAS) • Supported job search for dislocated workers, including those who have been laid off and displaced homemakers.   21. Specific Supported Job Search Programs • JVS has many programs to meet the job search needs of different individuals: • Supported job search on the Peninsula and in the East Bay. • JobLink for adults with disabilities. • Youth (ages 14-24) with disabilities.

  24. Vocational Skills Training Programs JVS offers specific training programs in fields that offer opportunity for Bay Area residents. Some of our current training programs include: • Healthcare Bridge, preparing college-age youth for careers in healthcare. • Through the HealthCare Academy: Certified Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Phlebotomy, and Personal Caregiver. • Nursing Refresher Programs for nurses re-entering the field. • Business Office Support Services (BOSS) Program. Training Programs:Youth with Disabilities • Every year, the JVS High School and Bridge Programs staff work with more than 800 youth with learning, emotional, or physical disabilities and former foster youth. • For nearly 20 years, JVS has helped young people aged 14-24 find work, pursue higher education, and become self-sufficient.

Training Programs:Kohn Summer Intern Program • The Kohn Summer Intern Program is a project of Jewish Vocational Service funded by the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties. • College undergraduates with primary residence in the Bay Area, can apply for this eight-week paid summer internship. • Jewish college students build their skills, gain valuable workplace experience, exposure to issues currently facing the Jewish community, and opportunities for supervision and mentoring from Jewish community leaders.

JVS Results Last year, as the state unemployment rate was 11-12%: • JVS clients found 1,056 jobs. • The average adult wage of our placements was $22 per hour. • 1,900 people attended over 600 public JVS workshops. • 1,100 people utilized our Technology Access Center. • Our client satisfaction rate was 95%. • 600 employers worked with JVS.

  32. How Much Does It Cost? With the exception of Career Coaching, we offer all of our services at no charge to you. We do ask that you tell us when you find employment: • Funder support us because we get results. • Your success can help pave the way for the success of future JVS job seekers. • Provide informational interviews • Being a guest speaker to job seekers • Hiring JVS clients

We offer our supported job search services at locations within the Jewish community.
