This document provides a comprehensive overview of the beamline project led by Tim Michalski, detailing the design, procurement, and construction phases up to the target chamber. Key milestones include a completed design for Regions 1 and 2, ongoing work on Region 3, and testing of various components. The report also addresses challenges faced, including instrumentation for low current data, equipment acquisition, and installation coordination with ongoing upgrades. Effective risk mitigation strategies are outlined to ensure progress toward the scheduled physics start in November 2011.

Overview Facilitate the design, procurement, and build of the beamline – up to the target chamber Experimental Plan Project Overview Project Status Project Challenges with risk mitigation
Project Overview • Design, procurement, component calibration and testing • Now through May, 2011 • Some components arrive after May • Access to Hall A for installation • May 14, 2011 • Installation completion – start of Physics • November 14, 2011
Project Status • Regions 1 and 2 designs complete and material ordered • Region 3 design well underway • New FZ vacuum chambers on order – Due this month • Finalizing FZ magnet stand designs • Addition of Harps on Articulating Arm and upside down girder • M15 style BPMs rather than stripline • Calorimeter controller repaired and SW upgrades underway • Worked through issues on BPM and BCM • Requires 12 BPM “Transport” modules • Awaiting testing to validate design decisions
Project Challenges • Instrumentation for Low Current data • BPMs and BCMs • Mitigation • BPM – M15 style, new electronics, test to verify this will achieve needed results • BCM – use existing hardware, test to verify this will achieve needed results (planned for mid Feb.) • FZ Magnet PS requirements evolving • Need up to 8 kG, requiring465A • Mitigation – reflecting requirements against selected PSs, identifying potential alternates
Project Challenges • Acquisition of equipment from various sources • FZ magnets, corrector magnets, slow raster, new BPMs, power supplies, controllers • Mitigation – get control as soon as possible, test and calibrate early (before installation) • Resurrection of Tungsten Calorimeter • Reposition in beamline, re-establish functionality, recalibrate • Mitigation – SW resource already assigned
Project Challenges • Installation at the same time as 12 GeV upgrades during 6 month down • Mitigation – alerted groups which will be in high demand – schedule planning in process • Slow Raster issues raised at last collaboration meeting – waveform generators and “hole” in raster pattern • Mitigation – Physics Electronics group addressing, update meeting Tuesday • Maintain strong communication – highlight issues early!
