  2. Meet the Teacher NightMrs. DeerAcademic Lab Our team’s goal is to achieve student success; we follow proactive strategies to meet the educational and behavioral needs of every student.

  3. It’s Back to School Time!

  4. Principal’s Message Stay tuned for an informative greeting from our principal-Jim Verrill

  5. First Week of School • Students meet in the Gym on Monday & Tuesday when the bell rings. • We suggest that students bring their lunches the first week of school.

  6. Keeping Organized – Student Agenda Student Agendas are provided during the first week of school. They help with organization by: • Communicating what is happening at school on a daily basis • Gives information about homework for each subject (there are even notes if no homework is assigned). • Gives parents a way to make sure that everything is getting done or to plan future activities (sports, extra-curricular or family outings)

  7. Academic Lab is all about building community and connections: • Announcements • Team meetings and activities (POD and subject-level) • Positive Behavior Intervention Systems-PBIS • Instruction: Computer and study skills and test preparation • Team building • NOT used as a daily study hall

  8. Managing Lunch Money • Pay in the foyer after exploratory classes tonight to add money for your child’s lunch account. • Use Kyrene’s online lunch money service to avoid delays. • Knowing your child’s student number before the first day of school makes things easier.

  9. SCHEDULE CHANGES Please be aware that your student’s schedule may change to balance classes as more students enroll and/or to increase academic success.

  10. “STRESS-LESS” HOMEWORK • If you have questions about homework you can check your child’s agenda or a teacher’s website for information. • Your child can use Academic Lab time to do research or print assignment if Internet access or a printer is not readily available. You can always Email your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

  11. It Pays to Be on Time Academic achievement is significantly related to school attendance. You can help us ensure that your child receives the education they deserve by arriving before the first bell rings at 8:25am! • Tardy Policy • First tardy is a warning • Second tardy is a parent contact • Third tardy is an After School Detention • Ongoing tardiness requires detention or office referrals to assist students in “catching up” on what they missed. • If you have questions about Arizona laws regarding school attendance see the Kyrene Family Handbook or talk to one of the Aprende administrators.

  12. Invitation The Aprende Parent-Teacher organization will be sponsoring a Meet and Greet breakfast for all 6th grade parents on: Tuesday, August 12th from 7:45am to 8:20am Please join us for a continental breakfast and a chance to socialize!

  13. Sports Physicals • Sports physicals will be available on Thursday, August 9th from 4:00-7:00 pm here at Aprende in our gym. • The cost for the physicals is $25.00. • Parents can sign up for an appointment and fill out forms at physico2go.com • Walk-ins will be welcome as time permits.

  14. Staying Organized Your student will bring home a purple Academic Lab folder on Monday. It will contain: • Important paperwork that may require your signature • Upcoming events that may be of interest to your child This folder should stay in your child’s backpack all year.
