I dreamed I stood in a studioAnd watched two sculptors there,The clay they used was a young child’s mindAnd they fashioned it with care.  One was a teacher:the tools she used were books and music and art;One was a parentWith a guiding hand and gentle loving heart. And when at last their work was done,They were proud of what they had wrought.For the things they had worked into the childCould never be sold or bought! And each agreed she would have failedif she had worked alone.For behind the parent stood the school, and behind the teacher stood the home!

  3. We at Niños believe… that every student deserves the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college.

Behavior Students will take responsibility for their behavior and recognize that their actions have either consequences or rewards. • Students must respect and obey all teachers. • Students must focus on learning and allow others to focus. • Students must listen and follow directions. • Students must use inside voices. • Students must be in control of behavior.

  5. Behavior Management Steps Step 1: Friendly Reminder Step 2: Refocus Desk (in classroom) Step 3: Refocus Desk (in another classroom) Step 4: Office Referral *expect a phone call if your child reaches step 4

Goal Work Folder(used to be called Homework Folder) • Keep in backpack when not in use. • Parents please monitor to see that quality work is being done. • Return every Friday. • Incomplete or lost homework will be finished/done during lunch recess. Purpose of folder – to develop organizational skills and promote responsibility.

  7. Communication Folder • Main communication piece between school and home. • Sent home every Friday, make sure look at all papers and addressing any paperwork that needs to be returned. • Return Communication Folder every Monday.

  8. Please check daily after school. Be sure Goal Work Folder stays in backpack. Backpacks Library Books • Keep books safe in backpacks or bookshelves. • Be sure to return books weekly.

  9. Reading • Ashlock Phonics Program • Sight word development • Small group instruction • Leveled book lab • Book Bags (need permission slip) • Develop habit of reading at home and school

  15. Where do I line up? First grade students will line up on the Primary Playground, facing the playground. Students can place backpacks in the designated teacher pick up area.

  16. Where do I play during recess? All students can use the play equipment, the basketball court and the field.

  17. What do I do when the bell rings? When the bell rings, line up in designated area. Look for your teacher.

  18. When will I eat lunch? First graders will eat lunch at 10:50 in the cafeteria. Followed by recess from 11:10 – 11:30.

  19. Will I get a snack time? We will have a daily snack. I am inviting parents to send in nutritional snacks that could be shared with the entire class. Please send healthy snacks.

  20. How do I get home? Teachers will walk all students to their assigned bus or daycare van. Kid Zone students will walk to the cafeteria. Students who are driven home will wait for parents in the designated Parent Pick-Up Zone on the east side of our School. Please do not exit your vehicle. Your child will be escorted to your vehicle. Tempe police request that there will be no drop offs or pick ups from the West Parking Lot.

  21. What do I do if my child will be absent from school? Parents must call the office at 541-4601 for all absences. Please try to schedule all appointments after school hours.

  22. What do I do if my child will be going home a different way? Changes in “Going Home” procedures must be inwriting or call the office before the end of the school day to insure the safety of your child.
