  2. General Housekeeping • Daily folders – Please check these each night and return them the next day. Record nightly reading on the READING LOG. • Remember to send in handwritten notes for transportation changes, email will not be accepted. • Please review any papers with your child and let me know if you have any questions. • Communication is the key to a fabulous year. General Housekeeping • Please send all money in a sealed envelope or baggie with child's name on it and who/what it is intended for. • Please send any attendance/tardy e-mails to Laurie Tuttle at LTuttle@forsyth.k12.ga.us • School begins promptly at 7:40. Car riders are encouraged to be here by 7:30 if they are eating a school breakfast. • Lessons begin at 7:45.

  4. Behavior Expectations • Be a good listener / follow directions. • Work quietly during work times. Stay on task. • Keep your hands to yourself. • Be a good friend to all. • Walk quietly in the halls. • Follow lunchroom rules. We’re using a new school-wide discipline plan this year. Your child’s Conduct Card will be sent home for you to review, sign and return every Friday.

Our Daily Schedule… • 7:10 – 7:40 MORNING WORK / BOOK BASKETS • 7:45 – 8:25 RTI • 8:30 – 10:00 MATH WORKSHOP • 10:00 – 10:45 SPECIALS • 10:45 – 11:30 WRITING WORKSHOP (and Grammar) • 11:35-12:05 LUNCH • 12:20 – 12:40 RECESS • 12:40 – 2:00 READING WORKSHOP • 2:00 CLEAN UP / PACK UP • 2:20 DISMISSAL • Scienceand Social Studies are integrated into our Reading and Writing lessons.

  6. Homework • 20 minutes of nightly reading, recorded on Reading Log • Usually one written assignment. • If no written homework is given, have your child work on learning their math facts or use Sharks Cove for practice/ enrichment activities on the computer. • Homework is due the next morning after it’s assigned. I will give credit for any late homework that comes in by Friday of the same week. • I advocate parent support of homework in the primary years. Please check your child’s homework, and give support when needed. Encourage independence.

  7. Math Frameworks Counting Money, Place Value to 1000, Time to 5 minutes, Comparing and Ordering Numbers, Number Patterns, Fractions, Geometry, Graphing, and Word Problems Automatic Recall of Addition/Subtraction Facts up to 18 -Practice often with flash cards, games and computer sites. (30 +/- in 3 minutes – Q1) Hands-on /manipulative based lessons - children “do” math Partner & small-group activities Skill Reinforcement through: Practice Enrichment Problem Solving Math Games F Math Workshop

  8. Students will be involved in daily writing activities to boost their skills as thinkers and communicators. Writing Process Modeled Writing-mini-lessons on narrative, persuasive, response to literature and expository (informational) writing. Independent Writing in all content areas. Writing Workshop

Language & Word Study focus: Spelling/Phonics Word Structure Word Meaning Reading Workshop Focus Make Connections, Question, Prior Knowledge, Visualize, Infer, Summarize, Sequence, Cause & Effect Reading WorkshopWe will work extensively on comprehension strategies, fluency and mostimportantly, the joy of reading. Center Rotations: Self-selected reading Listening Center Writing Spelling/Word Work Readers’ Theater (fluency) Raz Kids (reading comprehension) Reading Based Games Guided Reading Students meet in small groups with others at the same instructional reading level to work on strategies to boost comprehension, fluency, and work on strategies to become better readers.

Famous Georgians and their contributions Social Studies
