  3. Online Texbooks • Students can access their textbooks for Math, Social Studies, and Science online at: http://www.eduplace.com/eservices/ • Log-in: • Username: Mashburn5Classroom • Password: Mashburn5

  4. Math Forsyth County uses the Houghton Mifflin Series. Students can access their textbooks and materials online! We are also now following the Georgia Department of Education Frameworks. Parent letters will be sent home at the beginning of each unit to give advice on how to help your child at home

  5. Reading AR/DEAR Reading Goal: Read at least 25 books this school year. Read Cards Reading Log Topics to cover this year: Story Elements Reading Fluency Vocabulary

  6. Writing The State Department of Education administers the Georgia Writing Assessment Test to all fifth graders. Students will focus on four types of writing: persuasive, informational, personal narrative, and narrative.   7. Grammar Focus: 8 parts of speech, sentence combining, and correct usage. Please check your child’s binder for notes. All grammar skills will be taught along with the writing program.   8. Science Forsyth County uses Houghton-Mifflin as its science textbook. It is a great book, filled with many hands-on activities and experiments.   9. Health Forsyth County uses YourHealth (Harcourt Brace) for Health. Students will also be assigned a weekly article to read, along with questions to answer. These articles correlate with the Forsyth County standards for fifth grade health. Check out this website for related health information for your child: http://www.kids.gov/

  10. Social Studies Textbook, Social Studies: United States History (Houghton Mifflin). Fifth grade social studies starts with Civil War and continues through the beginning of the 21st century. For additional resources, please follow the links provided: http://www.eduplace.com/eservices/

  11. Behavior Plan/Rules Listen and follow instructions the first time given. Bring materials to class. Work quietly. Respect others (physical). Respect others (verbal). Complete classwork and homework.

  12. Friday Folder & Progress Sheet Friday Folders are sent home on Friday. Please sign and return the progress sheet and all graded work on Monday. Academic alerts can be found on the bottom of your child’s weekly progress sheet. Conduct Grades are assigned as followed: S = Successful P = Progressing N = Needs Improvement
