  3. What is STRETCH? STRETCH is an acronym for STudents Reaching Excellence Through CHallenge. ___________________________ “The pupil who is never required to do what he cannot do never finds out what he can do.” ~John Stuart Mill

  4. An IQ of 131 is more than two standard deviations above the mean.Students who fall more than two standard deviations above or below the norm are offered special services. We recognize that in order to meet the needs of students on the outer limits of the curve, we must provide educational interventions.

Gifted students need opportunities to: • learn at an appropriate level and pace • be exposed to a wide variety of learning material • explore areas of passionate interest • interact with their intellectual peers • learn strategies to cope with challenge • raise their level of tolerance for frustration

  6. What will my child do in STRETCH? The elementary STRETCH program involves both acceleration and extension activities including problem solving, creativity training, research, conceptual exploration,and core content-based activities. Students will work individually and in groups to explore and communicate new ideas, solve problems, and produce quality products that demonstrate task commitment, attention to detail, and mastery of content.

  9. When will my child attend STRETCH?

  10. How will my child balance STRETCH responsibilities and regular class work? One of the biggest sources of anxiety for incoming STRETCH students is the concern about missing a day of class once a week. They wonder what it will be like to do something SO different.

Don’t worry! • You won’t be asked to make up most of the work you missed (exceptions include introductory information and culminating activities such as unit tests) • The work in STRETCH will be more challenging than what you are used to, but that is why you are here! • There will be lots of other kids your age, and the friendships you forge in STRETCH will last a lifetime The one real goal of education is to leave a person asking questions. ~Max Beerhohm
