In 1941 the National Medical Association (NMA), a group for black doctors, queried the War Department about black doctors who would serve in WWII and didn’t want to be limited to segregated facilities. The War Dept determined Af-Am soldiers would remain in segregated units during WWII and would serve in mostly noncombat units. Race and WWII
